Join us for our next SPARKLE: Exercises for the Quiet Eye--Art Appreciation Workshop with Art Educator Annie Storr, Ph.D. Wednesday, February 14th at 2pm in the Silver Spring Civic Building.
"Exercises for the Quiet Eye" (EQE) is a guided way of looking at art, which encourages close observation and patient reflection. These hands-on exercises are designed to slow down the typical habits we (or most people) have for looking, which create a rush to understand it all prematurely.
EQE is a program that encourages close observation and patient reflection. These hands-on exercises are designed to quell the rush to understand prematurely, or to determine a set interpretation for what we see before we experience it fully. Participants will learn how to approach art more thoughtfully and effectively.
has been doing museum education around DC for years, as head of Education for the American Association of Museums, at the Smithsonian, and as the founding chair of the Education Studies Department at the Corcoran College of Art.
An art historian and art educator, Storr developed the EQE program through decades of work with students and members of the general public in museums.
She currently teaches Museum Studies at Harvard and is a Visiting Scholar at the Women's Studies Research Center of Brandeis University. Annie has been a resident of Silver Spring since 1989.
