Dr. Annie Woodley Brown is a retired professor from Howard University School of Social Work. A lifeline member of choirs since her childhood in Louisiana, she is currently a member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension's choir in Silver Spring, Maryland. She considers spirituals the soundtrack of her life and she is pleased to share a lecture and musical presentation on the role of spirituals in African Americans' struggle for freedom.
